Australian actor Geoffrey Rush, who has played Captain Barbossa for the past 14 years in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise was last seen in the recently released Pirates 5 (Salazar’s Revenge). The actor has hinted that he would not be seen in this franchise henceforth.
Rush told Hollywood media, “I did say to (producer) Jerry Bruckheimer, that this could be the end for Barbossa. His death expanded the world dramatically of the genre of a tent pole blockbuster, to lose an important character is kind of good. It all made sense and didn’t feel like an easy dramatic device.”
In this last installment, Barbossa’s character sacrifices his life for his daughter Carina. Even though the popular Pirates movie franchise has the habit of bringing back characters from their dead, the chances of Captain Barbossa’s return seem to be slim to none.
However, Bruckheimer also told Hollywood media, “You never know with us. We can always bring characters back when we love them and we love him. Where there’s a will in Hollywood, there’s a way.”
